SIMUSERV expands to Perth
03 November 2011
Energy resources Finite Element Analysis (FEA) specialists SIMUSERV have opened an office in Perth to streamline services to the industry in Western Australia.
SIMUSERV Director Gerd Diegelmann said FEA software minimises risk in resources project design. "Working in the natural environment presents greater risk than working in a controlled manufactured environment. This introduces potential for unpredictable outcomes, such as geophysical and gas pressures, movement of earth and rock, or at sea, engineers are challenged by powerful and relentless current and tidal flows," said Gerd Diegelmann.
Since the introduction of FEA technology to the gas, mining and oil industries in the early 1990s, state of the art SIMULIA Abaqus from Dassault Systèmes has become the "go to" software to help engineers design projects to perform more predicably in the natural environment.
Gerd Diegelmann said Melbourne based SIMUSERV is the Australian provider of SIMULIA Abaqus in the energy resources industry and the team has collaborated with key gas, oil and mining engineering customers to work on major projects, including the Gorgon off shore gas field project in Western Australia.
SIMUSERV Director Dr Barry Trippit was team leader on many of these projects and will head the company's new Perth Office during the establishment phase. "There is strong growth in the use of SIMULIA Abaqus as an essential tool in the project management of resources projects," he said. "We want to be closer to our Western Australian customers to provide both Computer Aided Engineering and FEA consultancy services, and technical support for SIMULIA Abaqus."
New SIMULIA Abaqus 6.11
The opening of the Perth SIMUSERV office is well timed with the introduction of the new SIMULIA Abaqus 6.11 update. Gerd Diegelmann said Abaqus 6.11 will provide powerful capabilities that allow users to analyse a broader range of multiphysics problems, leverage the latest high performance computing technologies, and accelerate the optimisation of their designs. In addition, SIMULIA Abaqus 6.11 can be integrated into other interactive 3D tools, such as CATIA or Solidworks.
"An important development is the SIMULIA Simulation Lifecycle Management (SLM) technology, which simplifies the implementation of approved simulation best practices, providing guidance in the use of simulation results for collaborative decision making,” he said.
"SIMULIA Abaqus software enables engineers to load actual and projected force data into the program. The technology analyses that data to show how those forces may impact on the project. By seeing the simulated potential impacts on the screen, and by reading the data output to understand the scale of the forces involved, engineers can design projects to minimise risk.
"They can design to contain pressures, control seabed pipeline movement on the ocean floor to avoid ruptures, or to ensure that surfaces do not collapse. This technology can protect lives, avoid environmental disasters and save millions of dollars in damaged infrastructure, cleanup, repairs, lost time and re-engineering," he said.
The SIMUSERV Perth Office at Level 3, 1060 Hay Street, Perth opened on 3 November 2011.
